Overview

Henry Schein is best known as a distributor, which obscures the fact that it is also an implant manufacturer — and that BioHorizons and Camlog still share the same owner. It took a majority position in BioHorizons in stages from 2013 and completed the acquisition in 2014, having already owned Camlog, and since 2016 has run them jointly; the combined organisation now trades as the BioHorizons Camlog Group from Basel. The two brands were deliberately not merged into one product line, so a BioHorizons implant and a Camlog implant remain different systems with different connections and different components. Henry Schein’s 2025 annual filing still records implants as a manufacturing activity across sites in the United States, Switzerland, Germany, Brazil and France, so the ownership arrangement remains current.

Regulatory record

Read this before drawing conclusions. A clearance or certificate means a device may legally be sold in a market. It is not a finding that the implant performs well, and it is not a comparison against other implants. In particular, FDA "clearance" is not FDA "approval" — clearance means the FDA accepted the device as substantially equivalent to one already on the market. What these actually mean →

Other1 record

Of 10 records we inspected, 0 are supplied sterile, 10 are supplied non-sterile and 0 do not state it. MRI safety labelling: Labeling does not contain MRI Safety Information (10). A UDI listing records what the manufacturer declared about the device; it is not a clearance or an approval.

Clearance records for Henry Schein were retrieved from the issuing authority's own database, not from the manufacturer's marketing material. We attribute a clearance to a brand only when the filing holder belongs to that brand's corporate family — third-party clearances for compatible components are excluded, because they belong to the company that made the component, not to Henry Schein.
