Overview
Titanium-zirconium is the main commercially significant alternative to unalloyed titanium in implant fixtures. Its practical appeal is narrow-diameter implants: the additional strength lets a manufacturer make a thinner implant without dropping to a weaker material, which is why it appears most often in reduced-diameter and short implant ranges. It is worth separating two claims that are frequently blurred together — that the alloy is mechanically stronger than commercially pure titanium, which is a materials property, and that this produces better clinical outcomes, which is a separate question requiring clinical evidence.
