What it means in practice
Unglamorous, and more useful than it sounds. A great deal of the confusion in this field is vocabulary drift between manufacturers — what one calls a platform another calls a connection, and "bone level" is used loosely for at least three different things. Having an agreed vocabulary is what makes comparison possible at all.
