Overview
The distinction between Promote and Promote plus is not a difference of surface chemistry or roughness at all - it is a difference of where the surface stops. Promote leaves 1.4 mm of the implant neck machined smooth; Promote plus leaves only 0.4 mm, carrying the roughened surface almost to the top of the fixture. That choice sits on one of the genuinely unresolved arguments in implantology: whether a smooth collar protects the crestal bone by giving plaque less to hold onto, or whether a roughened one preserves it better by encouraging bone to attach right up to the implant shoulder. CAMLOG offers both and lets the surgeon decide, which is a more honest position than declaring the question settled. For a patient, the practical consequence is that two CAMLOG implants described as having "the Promote surface" may not be the same implant, and it is worth knowing which variant was placed.
