Overview
Acqua occupies the same position in Neodent’s range that SLActive does in Straumann’s, which is not a coincidence: Neodent is a Straumann Group brand, and the two surfaces share the underlying idea of adding hydrophilicity to a blasted and etched topography. Neodent is unusually clear that the topography itself does not change - its own electron microscopy comparison found no roughness difference between Acqua and the older NeoPoros surface - so any benefit has to come from wettability rather than texture. The company is also more candid than most about the limits of its evidence, attaching a written caveat to its hydrophilicity data that the underlying work is a pre-clinical animal study. For a patient being quoted a Neodent implant in Turkey or Brazil, where the brand is widely used, the practical distinction is between the two surface options rather than between Neodent and its parent: Acqua and NeoPoros implants share the same body, thread and connection.
