Overview
TiUnite is the surface that established anodising as a mainstream alternative to blasting and etching, and it is unusual among implant surfaces in having been in continuous clinical use for around a quarter of a century - a genuinely long record by the standards of this field. Nobel Biocare leans on that record heavily, and the volume of published data is real. Two qualifications belong alongside it. The first is that the survival figures the company quotes come from its own synthesis of studies on its own product, which is not the same thing as an independent comparison against a competitor. The second is that anodised surfaces were, for a period, the subject of a specific concern about susceptibility to peri-implant infection; Nobel Biocare’s published prevalence figure addresses that argument directly, but prevalence numbers in this area are notoriously sensitive to how peri-implantitis is defined, so a single low figure should be read as one contribution to a live debate rather than as its conclusion. TiUnite has not been withdrawn in favour of the newer TiUltra: both appear in the current catalogue.
